Identify the Journey!
Instead of looking at becoming a Christian as an event, we need to approach it as a journey for the not-yet-Christian. Those outside of Christ readily respond to a journey concept and feel less intimidated when we use the term journey. Stating that coming to faith is a journey or a process allows us the freedom to join with them in the process and help move the discussion away from a one-time-event in their history. After all, in John 4, Jesus saw people coming to faith in a process when He described the harvest that was ready for reaping.
Our witness will be more effective if we learn to identify coming to faith as a journey and then practise relating it to others.
